Social Value at Wavex

Giving Back to Society

Using our time, expertise and resources to make a positive difference beyond our business.

Wavex has supported charities, community initiatives and employee-led fundraising for many years. Sometimes that means donating money. Sometimes it means giving our time. And sometimes it means applying our technology expertise where it can make the greatest difference.

Different Ways to Give Back

For Wavex, giving back is not one annual event. It is something our people have supported in different ways for many years.

Our Expertise

Supporting charities and not-for-profits through practical technology, security, AI and modernisation.

Our Time

Volunteering skills, supporting employability and helping people develop digital confidence.

Our Fundraising

Employee-led runs, walks, marathons, triathlons and other challenges that have raised thousands for good causes.

Giving Our Expertise

Helping charities make more of the resources they have

A number of Wavex clients are charities and not-for-profit organisations. They face many of the same technology challenges as commercial businesses - cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, data protection, ageing systems, remote working, business continuity, AI and automation - but often with more constrained budgets, wider geographical reach and greater pressure to direct expenditure towards their core mission.

"Every pound a charity avoids wasting on unnecessary technology is a pound that can potentially be directed towards its purpose."

Wavex focuses on helping charity clients use existing technology more effectively, reduce unnecessary complexity, improve cybersecurity, modernise ageing systems, support remote and international teams, and get more from limited internal resources.

IT as part of the mission

One Wavex charity client has employees who travel into war-affected areas around the world. In some locations, local IT infrastructure is limited, but staff still need secure and reliable access to information, colleagues and organisational systems.

In that environment, IT is not simply an office productivity tool. It can become an important part of allowing the charity to deliver its mission.

Community and Skills

Sometimes the most useful contribution is time

Wavex employees have volunteered their skills to provide basic IT training for people experiencing homelessness. The sessions cover practical everyday skills - creating documents, using email, completing online forms, searching for jobs, accessing online services and building confidence with computers.

"Skills that feel routine to someone working in technology can represent a significant barrier to somebody without regular access to it."

Wavex has also supported initiatives associated with Providence Row, a charity working with homeless and vulnerable people in London, as well as employability programmes for young people and those seeking to re-enter the workforce.

The Causes That Matter to Our People

Giving works best when people care about the cause

Wavex does not restrict charitable activity to one centrally chosen cause. Employees may support organisations that matter personally to them, and Wavex has supported this culture through a range of mechanisms.

"Some of our most worthwhile activities begin with somebody asking, 'Could we help with this?'"

Our role is to make it easier for the answer to be yes.

Employability

Giving back can also mean creating an opportunity

Technology careers can sometimes appear difficult to enter without experience or formal qualifications. Apprenticeships and practical learning can provide another route - and Wavex has supported this through apprenticeship programmes and employability initiatives for young people and those experiencing homelessness.

Giving someone their first step into a career in technology is one of the most practical forms of contribution a technology company can make.

Apprenticeships

Structured pathways into technology careers for people starting out.

Young people

Supporting employment initiatives for young people entering the workforce.

Homeless support

Helping people experiencing homelessness develop work-related digital skills.

Employability

Practical skills and confidence-building for those seeking employment.

Responsible Business

Social value also influences how we operate

Wavex recognises its environmental responsibilities and has supported climate projects through Ecologi. The focus is on reducing the impact of operating the business, supporting climate projects and encouraging responsible behaviour among suppliers, clients and stakeholders.

A Culture of Participation

Social responsibility should not exist only at Board level

Wavex invites employee feedback and ideas around social value and charitable activity. The best initiatives often come from within the team - from people who have a personal connection to a cause or who see an opportunity to help.

"The company can provide the support, but our people provide much of the energy."

A Successful Business Can Make a Difference Beyond Its Business

Wavex will continue looking for practical ways to contribute - through technology, money, skills, time and employment opportunities. The specific activities will change over time, but the underlying commitment will not.

"Being a successful business should also create opportunities to make a positive difference beyond the business itself."
